Before the band goes on, Lindy Hop instructors Seth Burgess and Nina
Current will give a beginner lesson at 7:30pm, which is free with
admission and no partner or experience
is required. Because the "followers" rotate through the
"leaders," it's a great way to meet people before the dance begins.
And, throughout the evening,
the 18-piece Beantown Swing Orchestra
will get the dance floor hopping
with classic big band arrangements from the 1930s and 1940s. The band mainly consists of college students
from Berklee and NEC, as well as some recent grads. There is plenty of energy here to get the place
swinging all night long!
The Scout House, located
in beautiful historic downtown Concord Center, is an 18th century
barn that was converted into a dance hall in 1940 and has remained a popular dance venue ever
since. The acoustics are great, and the dance floor is so springy you
feel like you can fly! Please bring a change of shoes to protect the dance floor. Parking is
readily available on the street or in nearby public lots (but please do not park
in the church lot just to the right). If taking public
transportation, the Concord station of the commuter rail (Fitchburg line)
is a six minute walk from the Scout House through a very safe neighborhood.
Hope
to see you this
Saturday, and please forward this announcement to all
your friends!
